Outline the working setup
Mark the desk's overall width and depth on the floor. Add the position of your chair when sitting and when standing up. Check the route around the chair with the desk in use. Choose your own working allowance by trying the movement; the example calculator does not supply an ergonomic or accessibility standard.
Check the equipment footprint
Place your laptop, keyboard, mouse and any other equipment on an existing surface in the intended arrangement. Measure the actual depth and cable routes. A monitor stand may occupy more tabletop than expected. Check the desk's stated load limit and mounting restrictions before adding a clamp arm or heavy display.
Understand the folding sequence
Read the instructions to see which parts move and what must be removed. Include the space needed to release locks and turn the desk, if required. Do not plan to fold it while equipment remains on top unless the manufacturer explicitly permits that. Keep cables clear of hinges and moving frames.
Choose a real storage location
Compare the folded width, height and depth with the closet or corner where it will live. Check how the manufacturer says to store it; a thin folded profile does not mean it can be safely leaned anywhere. Keep it out of doorways and avoid a storage arrangement that requires daily lifting beyond your comfortable handling ability.
Decide how often you will fold it
For occasional work, clearing the surface may be an acceptable trade-off. If you need a permanent monitor and accessories every day, a fixed compact desk may involve less setup. Measure both alternatives with the same equipment and chair. The right choice is the one that supports the actual routine in the room.
